Residents in Portsmouth have backed a radical plan by housing services (i.e. Neighbourhood Management, Housing Management and the Antisocial Behaviour Team) to enlist ‘Scary Guy’ to lead an antisocial behaviour tackling programme with children in schools.
Scary Guy is a truly unique individual from the USA. Purposefully, he uses his tattooed appearance and personal experiences of prejudice and hatred to help children understand the impact their behaviour has on each other and the wider community. His work extends to children in school, children who have been excluded from school, parents and the workplace.
Initially The Scary Guy programme will be implemented in a number of schools and youth centres in the heart of Portsmouth but it is intended this will extend across the city and into Leigh Park and Wecock Farm.
Gerry McDougall, Antisocial Behaviour Housing Coordinator commented, “This innovative approach to tackling anti-social behaviour on our estates will be a good investment.”
